The Australian Government takes safety in schools very seriously and believes that all students have the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. Bullying and violence can have a catastrophic impact on children who are victims and their families as well as on other children and families who are indirectly the victims of these crimes. The Government works closely with state and territory education authorities to deal with these issues and has itself instigated a number of initiatives to complement that work and show leadership.
