Australia’s new national workplace relations system launches on 1 July 2009. From this date the role of the Workplace Authority will change.
 
Until 31 January 2010 the Workplace Authority will continue to perform the following functions:

  • accepting lodgement of, and to assessing against the no-disadvantage test, individual transitional employment agreements (ITEAs) made before 31 December 2009.
  • accepting lodgement of collective agreements made before 1 July 2009
  • assessing collective agreements made before 1 July 2009 using the current no-disadvantage test

The Fair Work Ombudsman will take over the Workplace Authority’s general advisory function and Fair Work Australia will act as the new national workplace relations tribunal with powers relating to enterprise bargaining and enterprise agreements.
