General Employee Entitlements and Redundancy Scheme - Overview

The General Employee Entitlements and Redundancy Scheme (GEERS) is a basic payment scheme established to assist employees who have lost their employment due to the liquidation or bankruptcy of their employer and who are owed certain employee entitlements. GEERS covers capped unpaid wages, annual and long service leave, capped payment in lieu of notice and capped redundancy pay.

GEERS Operational Arrangements

The Department uses the Operational Arrangements to determine your eligibility for GEERS assistance.  The GEERS Operational Arrangements also set out how GEERS is administered.

The GEERS Operational Arrangements were amended on 1 January 2011.

How to lodge a GEERS claim

Before you begin your claim for GEERS assistance, you should read the GEERS Operational Arrangements. The Department uses the GEERS Operational Arrangements to determine if you are eligible for any GEERS assistance and the amount of any GEERS advance.
