To assist the Department to assess employees’ claims as quickly and accurately as possible, the Department would appreciate it if you would:
- Familiarise yourself with the GEERS Operational Arrangements, which state the eligibility requirements and the extent of GEERS
- Remain the primary contact for employees seeking information on GEERS
- Ensure employees are aware of GEERS and the provisions in the GEERS Operational Arrangements that may affect their eligibility for an advance
- Advise employees that they may lodge a claim for GEERS assistance in one of the following ways:
- Distribute the GEERS ‘How to claim for GEERS assistance’ information sheet to each employee of the insolvent employer

- Where appropriate, distribute GEERS Claim Forms to each employee of the insolvent employer
- Ensure claim forms are lodged with the Department as soon as possible to enable efficient processing
- The Department requests that you do not provide any undertakings about employees' eligibility for GEERS assistance. The Department advises employees of their eligibility in writing after assessing their claim
- Notify the Department as soon as possible if you will be unable to undertake GEERS work and provide the Department with a list of employees and details of where GEERS Claim Forms can be distributed
- Provide the Department with timely and accurate information relating to the business entity including completing the GEERS spreadsheet, signing a Verification Statement confirming employee entitlements and completing a Distribution Agreement within four weeks of receiving the initial GEERS pack
- Distribute GEERS advances to eligible employees within 14 days of receipt
- Return the Acquittal and Overpayment Information spreadsheet, Statement of Acquittal and any amount not distributed to the Department within one month of receiving the GEERS advance
- Acknowledge the Commonwealth’s right to recover GEERS advances
- Advise the Department of the likelihood of a dividend as soon as this information becomes available
- Notify the Department if the employer’s interests or assets are sold or transferred to another business in a manner that affects employees
- Provide the Department as soon as possible with all circulars and reports to creditors, copies of Agreements or Trusts entered into by the employer in the last 12 months and any other relevant documentation including Notices of Creditors Meetings and Creditors Reports.
