The Hon Julia Gillard MP, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, has released the updated version of the Implementation Guidelines for the National Code of Practice for the Construction Industry, August 2009, (the Guidelines), which will take effect on 1 August 2009. Until that time, the current Guidelines will continue to apply.

The Guidelines have been amended to reflect the Fair Work Act 2009 (FW Act), and take into account:

• some of the suggestions of the Honourable Murray Wilcox QC, as outlined in his report 'Transition to Fair Work Australia for the Building and Construction Industry'
• the extensive consultations Government has undertaken with State and Territory Governments, Employee and Employer associations and major contractors, in the review of the Guidelines.
