Welcome to Trades Recognition Australia (TRA)
TRA manages skills assessment services for people with trade skills who are Australian citizens, residents (both temporary and permanent) and potential migrants to Australia. The following information is provided on this website:
Skills Assessment for People Seeking a Permanent Residence Visa
TRA is a skills assessing authority for the Australian Government General Skilled Migration (GSM) program. TRA assesses over 170 occupations; most of these are trade occupations. Skills assessments are needed to apply to the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship for a residence visa for a skilled migrant.
- If you require a skills assessment for a residence visa and are applying from within Australia and have completed studies in Australia, your assessment will be carried out under the
Job Ready Program.
- If you require a skills assessment for a residence visa under any other circumstances, your assessment will be carried out under the Skilled Worker Program.

You need to check with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship about the conditions of the visa you are applying for to make sure you apply under the correct skills assessment program. TRA is unable to provide information on visa Subclasses |
Skills Assessment for Temporary Worker (457) visa
The Australian Government offers a program called the subclass 457 visa for Australian employers to sponsor approved skilled workers from outside Australia to work in Australia on a temporary visa.
Temporary workers applying for a 457 visa in certain trades and from the certain countries must undertake a skills assessment managed by TRA.
