Information for Approved VET Providers in Victoria

From 1 July 2009, the VET FEE-HELP assistance scheme has changed for Victorian providers and Victorian students. Victoria is the only Reform State or Territory for the purposes of VET FEE-HELP meaning these changes only apply to these providers and students.

If you are a VET Provider and you offer VET diploma and advanced diploma courses in Victoria, you will be exempt from meeting the requirement of having a VET Credit Transfer Arrangement in place in order to have these courses approved.

The changes also mean more students have access to VET FEE-HELP assistance as the VET FEE-HELP scheme has now been extended in Victoria to include certain State government subsidised students.

For more information regarding eligibility requirements for Victorian Government subsidised training, visit the Skills Victoria website or contact Skills Victoria on 131 823.

What happens if I offer my diploma or advanced diploma courses in States or Territories other than Victoria?

If a VET provider offers diploma or advanced diploma courses in Victoria and in other States and Territories, that VET provider must meet the requirement to have a VET Credit Transfer Arrangements in place in order to offer VET FEE-HELP assistance to full fee-paying students enrolled in those courses in those other States or Territories.

What’s the difference between a subsidised and full fee-paying student?

A subsidised student is a student that has funding from a State or Territory, and is identified by that State or Territory as a subsidised student. A full fee-paying student is a student whose enrolment is not funded by a State, Territory or the Commonwealth.

What is the difference between a VET FEE-HELP loan for full fee-paying and subsidised students?

Full fee-paying students will incur a VET FEE-HELP debt which includes a 20% loan fee.  Students identified as subsidised by the Victorian Government will not incur a loan fee as part of their VET FEE-HELP debt.
