The Enterprise Based Productivity Places Program (EBPPP) is providing opportunities for employees in participating enterprises to increase their skill levels and gain further qualifications. This is expected to assist enterprises to increase productivity and meet the demand of today’s economy for higher level skills.
The program is a partnership between enterprises, Industry Skills Councils (ISCs) and the Australian Government. The Australian Government’s contribution for enterprises with less than 100 employees is 90 per cent of the total training cost, with the employer providing 10 per cent; for enterprises with between 100 and 199 employees, the Government is contributing 75 per cent of the cost of training; and for enterprises with over 200 employees 50 per cent is being contributed by the Australian Government and 50 per cent by the employer.
ISCs, with their specialised industry knowledge, play a critical role in delivering this program. They have promoted the program within their respective industries and worked with enterprises and industry associations to assist them in developing funding applications. ISCs continue to play an important role in the monitoring and implementation of the program. Details of the role of ISCs can be found in the EBPPP Guidelines.
The Australian Government has made available $50 million in Australian Government funding to support the delivery of about 14,000 new training places for existing workers. The training is being delivered at the Certificate III to Advanced Diploma levels across all industry sectors in areas of national and local skills demand.
Training supported by EBPPP funding is expected to commence on or before 31 December 2010. The duration and completion of training will be dependent on the time required to gain the qualification sought. It is expected all training will be complete before 31 December 2013. The final evaluation of the program is scheduled to be completed by 30 April 2014.
