Belt Basics: An Introduction to Safety and Quality in the Conveyor Belt Industry

An interactive CD-ROM which introduces new employees in the conveyor belt industry to safety and quality issues. This resource is context specific for resource and mining operations.

The resource has on-screen activities, audio narration and text tracking, it covers:

  • working on-site.

On screen activities are complemented by a number of optional simple written activities which help provide evidence of competence in some of the performance criteria from the core units in Certificate 1 in Process Manufacturing (MSA10107) Plastics, Rubber and Cablemaking Training Package (PMB01).

Getting the Job Done - a communication skills resource for team leaders

Resources and infrastructure

This resource is an interactive CD-ROM, based around the work tasks of a team leader recorded in a daily diary. It supports the development of workplace communication skills for employees moving into a supervisory or leadership role, using interactive tasks and workplace activities. Photos and audio clips are used to introduce each module. The resource supports the development of workplace communication skills in the Certificate IV Training Packages for coal mining, civil construction, drilling, extractive and metalliferous mining. A supplementary trainers’ guide to support the CD is also available as a PDF document.

Securing the ground: a training video for underground mine workers

This WELL funded training video and the accompanying language support materials in the worksheet handbook focus on the Geomechanics risk management of working in underground mines. The video provides an overview to the concepts of ground control within the cycle of underground mining with a holistic perspective of securing the ground in the mining area. The video addresses:

  • The mining cycle and identifying potential rock fall hazards
  • Scaling manual and mechanised
  • Reinforcement and support of mine walls.

The training guide provides trainers with ideas and worksheets for introducing and revising the vocabulary particular to the safety aspects of working in mines for miners who come from language backgrounds other than English. It shows how to use the video and worksheets in tandem to both introduce and revise the concepts. Worksheets include collaborative tasks, vocabulary work, grammar, crosswords, prediction and writing tasks.
