ACSF Full document

The Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) is a comprehensive tool that assists literacy practitioners and trainers who deliver in the workplace, in educational institutions and in the community. It is also the key quality measure for the Workplace English Language and Literacy (WELL) Program and the Language Literacy and Numeracy Program (LLNP).

The ACSF describes a person’s performance in the five core skills of Learning, Reading, Writing, Oral Communication and Numeracy. The framework provides a consistent national approach to identifying core skills requirements for personal, community, work and training contexts, and is a common reference point for describing and discussing performance in the five core skill areas.

Using the ACSF helps with:

  • assessing core skills performance
  • describing core skills in the workplace
  • mapping curricula
  • informing decisions regarding funding and referrals
  • making connections to relevant Employability skills facets.

Additionally, this document makes a significant contribution to the formulation and review of nationally recognised vocational training; training packages, and is used by curriculum writers and resource developers.

The ACSF is being revised. The new version will include the addition of a Pre ACSF Level 1 Supplement. Further information will be made available soon.

The ACSF is available for download below. PLEASE NOTE: This file is 180 pages in length, and is currently unavailable in print form. Printed copies will be available after release of the revised ACSF in early 2012.

ACSF Concise Summary

The ACSF concise summary outlines the key concepts and applications of the ACSF. The summary can be used as a simple reference that can assist non-specialists in their understanding of the factors that influence core skills development and performance.
