Overview
The Commonwealth Government provides funding to non-government schools to assist with the recurrent costs of school education. The funding supports the objective that all Australian school students acquire the knowledge and skills to participate effectively in society and employment in a globalised economy.
The Schools Assistance Act 2008 provides the legislative framework for Commonwealth funding for non-government schools for 2009-2012.
The funding arrangements for non-government school systems and schools are aligned with, and support, the responsibilities of the states and territories with regard to regulation, educational quality, performance and reporting on educational outcomes.
