REDI for the classroom - this video and facilitator guide aim to provide teachers with opportunities to enhance their use of strategies for active and inclusive student centred learning. Through a set of workshop activities and video triggers, teachers who provide drug education related activities can consider their own strategies and techniques for fostering learning, belonging and participation within their classrooms.
It consists of:
- a video, made up of three short trigger segments
- a facilitator guide, which provides background information on the REDI professional development resources, guidelines for using the accompanying video, workshop activities, handouts and a set of overhead transparencies.
The video
The video runs for approximately 28 minutes and consists of three trigger segments:
- Segment 1: Teaching and drug education - views on effective school drug education practice
- Segment 2: Using interactive and inclusive strategies - examples of interactive and inclusive teaching strategies in three classrooms - upper primary, lower secondary and upper secondary
- Segment 3: Building interactions and skills - same classes as in Segment 2, but involving more complex group activities around problem solving and decision-making
REDI for the classroom a resilience approach to drug education
The workshop, a professional development workshop for teachers is designed to be customised to adapt to particular school contexts. The 12 PowerPoint slides may also be converted to overhead transparencies for professional development and support sessions for REDI resources.

REDI for the classroom : teaching strategies for a resilience approach to drug education video facilitator guide
REDI for the classroom is a professional development workshop for upper primary and secondary teachers involved with drug education. It aims to develop an understanding of effective drug education features and to promote interactive and inclusive strategies in the classroom. It can be delivered as a half-day or two and a half hour workshop, or as a series of three sessions. This facilitator’s guide contains workshop activities on teaching, resilience and drug education; using interactive and inclusive strategies; and building interactions and skills. Handouts and overhead transparency masters are included.
