Ketamine: Greg’s story

“My mate and I were at a party. We had one friend, who was really into the dance scene, who offered us both something called Special K. Neither of us had heard of it but he told us that it was a bit like LSD and would make us laugh a lot and have a great time. I told him I wasn’t interested but my mate said yes and snorted a little bit.

“It wasn’t too long before he wished he hadn’t. He started to really lose it and couldn’t stand up. He said that he couldn’t see properly and then started to feel really sick. I had to take him to the toilets and he vomited for almost two hours non-stop. I almost called an ambulance a couple of times because I started to get really scared that he was never going to get any better.

“My mate said it was the worst experience of his life. I’ve told everybody to keep away from this drug – I’ve seen what it can do to you!”

I WISH I’D KNOWN...

“I wish I’d known not to search through my child’s bedroom for evidence of drug use. The cost of that loss of trust may have been the capacity for my child to trust that I could help them. I know that the best way to help my child in the future is to establish, clear, open, honest and non-judgmental communication. It is important to set clear boundaries and expectations about their behaviour, but to be there to help them as they learn.”
