“Andy came into the medical tent all by himself. He had taken an ecstasy tablet about an hour earlier and then had begun to feel extremely uncomfortable. He told us that he’d taken the drug before, but had never felt like this, and he was pretty scared. |
“He had an overwhelming fear that he was going to die. He didn’t know why he felt like this, he told us that he didn’t even feel particularly unwell. He had just become very frightened and nothing that he did seemed to help. Apparently his friends had tried to reassure him that he was okay but nothing they said made any different to the terrible feelings he was experiencing.
“It was clear to us that Andy was having a panic attack brought on by taking the ecstasy. His temperature was higher than normal and he was slightly disorientated but apart from that he was physically okay and did not need medical assistance. Psychologically he was very distressed.
“Andy stayed with us for about an hour until the panic attack was well and truly over. One of his friends arrived to find out how he was and agreed to take him straight home. The experience had left him totally exhausted and much wiser about the effect that a drug like ecstasy can have on your mental health.”
