On Wednesday 7 September 2011, the Minister for School Education announced changes to the chaplaincy program.
On Thursday 20 October 2011, the Minister for School Education, Peter Garrett, announced the opening of applications for eligible schools and called for expressions of interest for potential Funding Recipients under the expansion of the program.
From 2012 the National School Chaplaincy Program will become the National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program.
Current arrangements under the National School Chaplaincy Program will remain in place until the end of the 2011 school year.
