Employability Skills

Employability skills, sometimes referred to as generic skills, capabilities, enabling skills or key competencies, were developed in 2002 by the Business Council of Australia and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in consultation with other peak employer bodies.

Job Ready Certificate

A Job Ready Certificate is being explored by the Australian Government.  It is anticipated that a certificate could assist with the assessment and reporting on the employability skills of students who have completed secondary school and have undertaken a VET in Schools program.

Vocational Learning

Vocational Education and Training in Schools

Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VET in Schools) are programs undertaken by school students as part of the senior secondary certificate that provide credit towards a nationally recognised VET qualification within the Australian Qualifications Framework. The training that students receive reflects specific industry competency standards and is delivered by a Registered Training Organisation or a school in partnership with a Registered Training Organisation.

Australian Vocational Student Prize and Prime Minister’s Award for Skills Excellence in School

The Australian Vocational Student Prize (AVSP) and Prime Minister’s Award for Skills Excellence in School (PM’s Award) recognise Year 12 students who demonstrate exceptional skills, commitment and achievement while undertaking a Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools program or an Australian School-based Apprenticeship.
