Employability Skills

Employability skills are the non-technical skills and knowledge necessary for effective participation in the workforce, and can include skills such as communication, self-management, problem solving and teamwork. They are also sometimes referred to as generic skills, capabilities, enabling skills or key competencies.

The Australian Government is funding the development of a new employability skills framework

Vocational Learning

Vocational Education and Training in Schools

Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VET in Schools) are programs undertaken by school students as part of the senior secondary certificate that provide credit towards a nationally recognised VET qualification within the Australian Qualifications Framework. The training that students receive reflects specific industry competency standards and is delivered by a Registered Training Organisation or a school in partnership with a Registered Training Organisation.

Australian Vocational Student Prize and Prime Minister’s Award for Skills Excellence in School

The Australian Vocational Student Prize (AVSP) and Prime Minister’s Award for Skills Excellence in School (PM’s Award) recognise Year 12 students who demonstrate exceptional skills, commitment and achievement while undertaking a Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools program or an Australian School-based Apprenticeship.
