Funding for new SLCs in schools across Australia
On 30 June 2009, the Minister for Education, Julia Gillard, announced that 537 science laboratories and language learning centres will be built or refurbished under the first stage of the Science and Language Centres for 21st Century Secondary Schools' (SLC) element of the Building the Education Revolution (BER).
The funding will provide schools with access to modern facilities with leading edge technologies in their own learning spaces. Construction of these projects will commence quickly, providing immediate support for jobs.
Secondary schools were assessed in a competitive process where the key criterion was demonstrated disadvantage and need.
