Community Use of BER Facilities
Through the BER, the Commonwealth is building learning environments to help children, families and communities participate in activities that will support achievement, develop learning potential and bring communities together.
It is a condition of funding under the BER that schools must agree to provide access at no, or low, cost to the community to libraries and multipurpose halls funded under the Primary Schools for the 21st Century element of the BER.
This factsheet has been developed to provide information on the community use of BER facilities.
Building the Education Revolution - Advancing Sustainability
The most potent opportunity for improving the sustainability of a building is in the design phase, before the project is built. It is now a critical time for decision-making about the projects that are happening quickly as part of the Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER).
This factsheet provides an overview of key areas to consider when making design decisions about such issues as: water, energy and materials.
Disability (Access to Premises - Buildings) Standards
The Government recognises the importance of ensuring people with a disability benefit from its substantial investment in all Australian schools.
The Department has prepared a Factsheet to provide information on the impact of the Standards on the Building the Education Revolution program. Please note that the fact sheet refers to draft Standards.
Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards to make public buildings more accessible for people with mobility, vision and hearing impairments were approved on the 15 May 2010 and come into effect on 1 May 2011. The department expects education authorities to comply with the new Standards
More information on the Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards is available on Attorney General for Australia website and on the ComLaw website.
Language Learning Centres
This factsheet has been developed to support schools receiving funding for the construction of language learning centres to make the best use of opportunities afforded by the centres. It provides advice on how to design, equip and use the new centres to support modern approaches to language teaching.
