Welcome to the new Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations website. To assist you in navigating the site and finding information we have the following advice.
Main navigation
The most prominant navigation method is using the nine main 'streams' of the department on the upper right hand side. These navigation items will take you to an area of the site which represents a number of programs and initiatives of the department. From there, you will be able visit the individual programs and business areas within the departmtnet portfolio.
Site Guide
The site guide can be found above the main navigation. When clicking the link 'Site Guide', a high level site map will become visible which provides detailed information about deewr.gov.au.
The site guide is also replicated at the bottom of the page and is always available at any time you are browsing the site.
Document types
Document types are labelled with appropriate icons:
PDF document (Portable Document Format)
RTF document (Rich Text Format)
Word document
Excel spreadsheet
Powerpoint presentation
Windows media, HTML online, audio files, CSV
Font size
The font size on the screen can be increased or decreased to your preference in your browser by using the CTRL button with the scroll wheel on your mouse.
Search
Simple Search
Users can access a simple search or advanced search in the top right corner of the screen.
The simple search is activated by clicking on the magnifying glass or by hitting the Enter key.
When undertaking a simple search, the system will search through all of the sites content to display results.
Advanced Search
A user can select the following fields when undertaking an advanced Search.
Advanced Search Term: a combination of words (in any order) that is contained within the document/page title or description.
- Exact Phrases: a combination of words (in same order) that must be contained the document/page title or description.
- Any of these words: one of a combination of words that must be contained the document/page title or description.
- None of these words: Words that are not contained in the document/page title or description.
Search by Program(s) or Archived Status (optional)
- Click in one or multiple check boxes of Programs that you wish to be included within the search results.
Note: When searching for archived content, please do not select any of the site checkboxes, otherwise active and archived documents/pages from these sites will be included in the search results.
Search by File Format (optional)
Click the Search by File Format drop-down menu and select one of the following file format criteria:
- All File Formats
- Word Documents (.doc, .docx)
- Excel Documents (.xls, .xlsx)
- Presentations (.ppt, .pptx)
Click the Pick Property drop-down menu and select one of the following property criteria:
- Description: metadata field describing the purpose of the document/page is displayed in search results.
- Size: the physical size of the files returned within the search results. The measurement entered should be in Bytes, a user should only enter the numeric value and not the letter B. Note that within the search results, the size of the files will be displayed in Kilo Bytes (conversion is 1KB = 1024 B). (e.g. doc is 50 KB in size, user will have to enter doc equals 51200 in filed to return 50 KB doc)
- URL: the web address displayed in the browser.
- Created Date: the date when the document/page was published on the portal. Format = dd/mm/yyyy
- Last Modified Date: the date when the document/page was last updated on the portal. Format = dd/mm/yyyy
Click the Contains drop-down menu and select one of the following criteria:
- Does not contain
- Equals
- Does not equal
- Earlier than (date related)
- Later than (date related)
- The set of values within the Contains field will be determined by the type of property it applies to.
Enter your search value in the blank field immediately to the right of the Contains drop-down menu.
Note: Users can specify multiple Property values in a search. Users can select the And value to use an additional value in conjunction with the previous clause or they can select the Or value to nominate an alternate clause to limit the search.
