Senior Appointments to Fair Work

The Acting Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Senator Mark Arbib, is today pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Tim Lee as the General Manager of Fair Work Australia and Mr Nick Wilson as the Fair Work Ombudsman.

Fair Work delivers on the Rudd Government’s commitment to provide a one stop shop to ensure employers and employees know where they stand.

As General Manager of Fair Work Australia, Mr Lee will assist FWA President, the Hon Justice Giudice, to ensure that Fair Work Australia performs its functions and exercises its powers in accordance with the Fair Work Act 2009.  He will take up his appointment on 27 July 2009.

Mr Lee is currently the Executive Director of Community Operations and Strategy in the Victorian Department of Justice.  He has also served as the Deputy Secretary of Workforce Victoria from 2005 to 2008, and the Director of Industrial Relations in the Victorian Department of Human Services from 2000 to 2005.

Nick Wilson, who will commence in his role as Fair Work Ombudsman from 1 July, will be responsible for promoting harmonious, productive and cooperative workplace relations and compliance with the Fair Work Act 2009.

Mr Wilson comes to the role of Fair Work Ombudsman having been the Workplace Ombudsman since 2007.  Prior to this he also served as the Director of the Office of Workplace Services and the Industrial Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Industrial Registry.  He also held senior roles in South Australian departments including two years as head of SA’s Workplace Services agency.

From 1 July 2009, Fair Work will operate as a one stop shop for education, information and advice on all aspects of the new workplace relations system.  www.fairwork.gov.au and the Fair Work Infoline (13 13 94) will provide employees and employers with all the information they need about the new system.

The General Manager of Fair Work Australia and the Fair Work Ombudsman will work closely together to ensure workplace services and operations in the new system are provided in a modern, accessible, responsive and streamlined manner.
