Australia-European Union Education Cooperation

EU-Australia joint cooperation projects

Since 2003 Australia and the EU have jointly funded seven rounds of bilateral student mobility projects. These seven rounds have already seen 21 projects funded. At the completion of the seventh round, over 1400 Australian and European students will have studied overseas in either the EU or Australia as part of these projects.

Mobility projects aim to develop innovative curricula, joint credit transfer arrangements, support academic cooperation and encourage student mobility. These projects cover a wide range of topics including international relations, cultural and natural heritage management, , criminology and security studies, , business, fashion, journalism, water management, social work, engineering, design, environmental studies and architecture.

The projects take place under the auspices of the EU’s Industrialised Countries Instrument Education Cooperation Program (ICI ECP).The ICI ECP allows the EU to simultaneously undertake separate student mobility projects with Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the Republic of Korea. The EU also undertakes education cooperation projects with the United States of America and Canada.

Eighth Round (2012)

Guidelines and applications are currently open for the 2012 round of EU/Australia joint mobility and joint degree projects. The 2012 round offers opportunities for study in the EU through both joint or double degree projects as well as joint mobility projects. Successful projects for an eighth round will commence in the second half of 2012.
