VET Outbound Mobility Program

Overview

The VET Outbound Mobility Program provides funding for VET students and staff to undertake an international study or work placement.

The Program aims to:

  • increase the number of Australian VET students undertaking courses leading to the award of a Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Vocational Graduate Certificate or Vocational Graduate Diploma who undertake an international study opportunity, which could include a work placement, internship or volunteer project related to their industry sector or profession;
  • facilitate the outbound mobility of VET students by increasing the level of partnership activity between Australian education and training providers and/or industry and their international partners; and
  • increase the employability and training outcomes of VET students through an international experience.

Description

Through the Program, the Australian Government provides funding to eligible Vocational Education and Training providers for:

  • economy airfares for students, administrators and trainers;
  • funding for staff replacement; and
  • outbound mobility program development.

Eligibility

  • Institutions

Funding is provided to Australian public and private RTOs only.  For further details regarding eligibility of Australian institutions, please see the Program Guidelines. While RTOs may propose in their application to partner with other Australian organisations such as sector peak bodies, government agencies or not-for-profit organisations (such as Industry Skills Councils), only RTOs are eligible to apply for funding.

  • Projects

Under this Program the Australian Government will provide funding to recipient institutions to subsidise Australian students to participate in the following overseas experiences that directly relate the students’ fields of study:

  • short-term study experiences or research trips;
  • paid or unpaid internships or work placements; and
  • practicum or clinical placements.

Projects may be up to six months and activities undertaken by the participating students must be for some form of credit at the students’ home institution.

  • Students

Participating students must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia and reside in Australia. Applications for the Program must be for projects that involve the outbound mobility of students undertaking courses leading to the award of:

  • Certificate IV;
  • Diploma;
  • Advanced Diploma;
  • Vocational Graduate Certificate; or
  • Vocational Graduate Diploma.
  • Destinations

Eligible destinations include countries and regions within Europe, Oceania, the Americas, the Asia Pacific and the Middle East. For a full list of eligible countries please refer to the Program Guidelines.

Benefits

Student subsidies of $2,000 and staff visit subsidies of $1,500 are available.

VET Sector Outbound Mobility Toolkit

To support Australian Training Providers in establishing, promoting and managing their mobility programs, DEEWR, in collaboration with key stakeholders within the sector, has developed the VET Sector Outbound Mobility Toolkit. The toolkit brings together a range of resources including policies, checklists and templates.
