The Governor-General’s Indigenous Student Teacher Scholarship’s aim to assist and support Indigenous university students to obtain a teaching degree. Scholarships will be awarded in 2010, 2011 and 2012 to one teacher education student from each state and territory. Students who have been successful in obtaining the scholarship will be awarded $25,000 per year, for up to four years, to assist with study costs.
These future teachers will act as role models for Indigenous students and, leading by example, will contribute to raising educational expectations for Indigenous students, support community involvement, and raise awareness of other educators.
2012 Applications
Applications for the 2012 Governor-General’s Indigenous Student Teacher Scholarships are now open, application will close on the 10th January 2012.

2011 GGISTS Recipients
On Friday 24th June 2011, the Governor-General of Australia presented eight recipients with the 2011 Governor-General’s Indigenous Student Teacher Scholarships at Government House in Canberra. This is the second year the scholarships have been offered to one student from each state and territory in recognition of the importance of assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to become exceptional teachers, positive leaders and role models for all Australians.
