To help achieve the closing the gap targets in education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples there will need to be significant effort and collaboration by governments and their agencies, communities and the non-government, corporate and philanthropic sectors.
The Indigenous Youth Leadership Program (IYLP) Partnership Brokers facilitate partnerships with Indigenous communities and families, secondary and or tertiary education providers, corporate, philanthropists and others to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students achieve an excellent education and gain leadership skills.
These partnerships will help close the gap between the education outcomes of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, by supporting as many young people as possible through scholarships and other support.
IYLP Partnership Brokers are able to assist an increased number of students with scholarships funded under IYLP and sponsorships from philanthropic, corporate and individuals. In addition, these sponsorships can be used to supplement IYLP funding and ABSTUDY to help meet school fees, tuition, boarding and other costs associated with the scholarship recipient’s education.
Other types of support from external sources that IYLP Partnership Brokers can bring to assist students include donations, in-kind support, volunteers, and corporate secondees.
