Education Providers

Universities

Australian universities participate in a quality assurance process through the Australian Universities Quality Agency, thereby ensuring the quality of the nationally recognised qualifications received.

Selecting high performing secondary education providers

Partnership Brokers select and assess high performing schools (government, non government, boarding and day schools) to be endorsed by DEEWR for participation in the Program.

Schools are assessed against the quality standard set out in the Quality Framework. The Quality Framework can be found here:

Schools applying to become an approved IYLP secondary education provider must be a member of Dare to Lead and meet the following minimum criteria identified in relevant research such as the ACER Effective Schooling Framework:

  • Strong inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history in curricular; and
  • Clear evidence that school leadership is committed to effectively engaging and educating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Refer to the IYLP Quality Framework for all the identified guidelines.

In addition, Partnership Brokers support and encourage their partner education providers to adopt cultural integrity principles within their institutions both during and beyond the life of the IYLP, as a matter of best practice.

In particular Partnership Brokers support their education provider partners to achieve or enhance:

  • success in supplementing high academic achievement in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students;
  • a continuing expectation of high academic achievement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students;
  • a comprehensive and culturally appropriate teaching and pastoral care program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students;
  • an appropriate program of support for academic achievement (numeracy, literacy and study) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students;
  • existing school-based programs to meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students; and
  • provision of opportunities to enhance student leadership skills.

Schools should contact the Partnership Brokers operating in their location for information about becoming an IYLP Education Provider.
