Provider Requirements
An education provider that receives funding under any element of the Indigenous Education Targeted Programs (IETP) must ensure that persons who will come into contact with children in the delivery of a funded initiative are suitable persons to work with children, and comply with any working with children checks required by the State or Territory in which the services are being delivered.
Where an organisation is not an education provider (as defined below) but receives funding under any element of the Indigenous Education Programs, the organisation must ensure that all persons who will come into contact with children in the delivery of a funded initiative undergo an Australian Federal Police (AFP) National Police Check for Working with Children (‘National Police Check’) that provides full disclosure of any pending charges or convictions. Education providers are not required to report to DEEWR in relation to compliance with this responsibility.
An Education Provider is defined as:
(a) a State or Territory (i.e. State Departments of Education), or
(b) a university or other institution providing post-secondary education, or
(c) a person or body conducting, or associated with, an educational system or educational institution (for example, Catholic education system and schools that operate within that system; independent schools), or
(d) a person qualified to carry out research, or give advice, about education.
