Lenny Quakawoot
Project Officer, Indigenous Employment and Enterprise Policy Branch 2007 Participant
My name is Lenny Quakawoot from Mackay. My Mother is from the Yidinji tribe in Cairns and my Dad descended from the South Sea Islanders.
I commenced the Contract Management Program in September 2007 and completed successfully in September 2008. |

What attracted me to the program was the fact that I was going to be working with a lot of Indigenous people around Australia, as well as the skills and capabilities which I’d gain from the program would ensure that I have a career investment in the Public Service.
When I first found out about the program I had to relocate from Brisbane to Canberra which wasn’t a worry at that stage even though I didn’t have any family down here, I knew that I had networks in the community to help me find accommodation down here, to be successful in my position that I was going for.
I worked at Attorney Generals throughout the program and picked up a lot of capabilities and good skill sets that helped me extend my career in DEEWR at a higher level.
I encourage other Indigenous people to apply for this Government program if they’re looking at having a job in the Public Service. The rewarding thing about the program is the capabilities and skill sets which you attain, and would be a good career investment for a successful career in the Public Service.
