Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Applications for the 2010 IAGDP have now closed. Candidates who have submitted an application can expect to be notified of their success in progressing to the second stage of the assessment process by the end of February 2010. Thank you for your interest in the program.


The following FAQs are based on enquiries we have received through our IAGDP hotline and email address to date.  If you have an additional question about the program, please give us a call on (02) 6240 3737 or email us via iagdp@deewr.gov.au.

 

Does the IAGDP only offer for twelve months employment and training?

No, the IAGDP offers participants who successfully complete the required components of the program ongoing (permanent) employment with an APS agency which has chosen to partner with DEEWR on the program.  During the first twelve months of their employment, participants are provided with a number of training and development opportunities including the Diploma of Government qualification.

 

Would I have to go to TAFE in the evening to do the Diploma of Government?

No, the Diploma of Government is delivered online, and participants are able to spend three hours per week to study during work hours.

 

Is the program only open to recent school leavers?

No, eligible candidates of all ages are encouraged to apply for the program.

 

Do I have to be an APS employee in order to apply for the program?

No, the IAGDP is open to all candidates who meet the eligibility requirements irrespective of whether or not they are employed.

 

If I am an existing APS employee, can I apply for the program?

Yes, like all vacancies notified on APSjobs, the IAGDP is open to all APS employees who meet the eligibility requirements. 

 

If I am already employed, can I do the program with my current employer?

Positions on the IAGDP will only be available with those APS agencies who have chosen to partner with DEEWR on the program.

 

Will I have to relocate in order to participate in the program?

Maybe.  Whilst there will be a number of vacancies available at various locations around Australia, the majority will be based in Canberra.  It is therefore likely that some candidates will be invited to relocate to Canberra to take up a position.

 

When does the program start?

The IAGDP is scheduled to commence on 1 June 2010.  This date may, however, vary in order to accommodate the requirements of partnering agencies.
