A/g Senior Project Officer,
Indigenous Youth Mobility Program
2006 Participant

Hi, my name’s Donna Busch and I’m originally from Cairns.

I commenced the program in April 2006, and completed it in April 2007.

What attracted me to the program was the opportunities given in the APS, and that’s career development and actually having a career, not just a job, and also being a part of Indigenous education and employment training opportunities, such as this one that the program offers.

Since relocating it has helped my career being part of the kind of programs within [the] Department of Education, Employment [and] Workplace Relations, which delivers Indigenous training and employment opportunities.  Participating in the program has given me great opportunities now with my career.

Since relocating to Canberra, I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of mainstream programs.  There’s a lot of support networks in Canberra for Indigenous staff.

Since graduating from the program and my relocation to Canberra, it has provided me with a wide variety of knowledge within, not only Indigenous employment programs, but mainstream.

I’d strongly encourage others to apply for the program due to the fact of all the support, and training and career development opportunities you can get within the department and the APS.  Whilst doing the program in Cairns, I had the opportunity to undertake work, as well as receive ongoing training and support.
