Bianca Brim

Contract Manager,
Indigenous Employment Program Branch
2007 Participant

My name is Bianca Brim and my family comes from the Northern Territory.  My Mother is from Alice Springs and my Father is from Lake Nash, but I was born in Mount Isa in Queensland, and grew up in Queensland.

I commenced the Contract Management Diploma Program in September 2007, and successfully completed it in September 2008.  I completed the Diploma whilst employed with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.  After completion I was promoted to a higher position.

I was attracted to apply for the Contract Management Diploma Program because of the stability of the Public Service employment, to further my education and to have a rewarding career path.

When I first found out I was successful for the position this meant I needed to relocate my family from Cairns to Canberra.  This was difficult as it was a dramatic change of lifestyle and it was difficult leaving my close friends and relatives.  Even though I felt as though I wanted to leave Canberra and return to Queensland on occasions, I committed myself to completing my Diploma first, as this would help me find better employment if I were to relocate back home.

I currently work in the Indigenous Employment Programs Branch within a program that assists Indigenous University students, while they study.  I have recently been given higher duties and may have the opportunity to later be promoted to a higher classification.

I feel I have chosen the right direction by relocating.  I have improved my education and now have an understanding of Government, Government Departments, and I have a successful and rewarding career, and I am able to financially support my family.

I would encourage all Indigenous people to consider a career in the Public Service by way of completing the Diploma of Government, and if the opportunity arises, to relocate to Canberra, as it has been the best step I have ever taken to further my career.
