People requiring tailor-made datasets, analyses or spreadsheets should first read through the Higher Education Data Protocols and then indicate their requirements by completing the Data Request Form.
Costs for data requests begin at approximately $90.00. Please be aware that due to the large number of customised requests received they will be placed in a queue. The waiting list is approximately 6-8 weeks.
No work will be undertaken until approval to proceed is given.
Under the Higher Education Support Act 2003, sections 179-5, 10, 15, 20(c) and the Privacy Act 1988, section 14 (IPP11), it is an offence to release any information that is likely to enable identification of any particular individual.
To avoid any risk of disseminating identifiable data, a disclosure control technique called data suppression has been utilised. Cells that have values of less than ten have been primarily suppressed and annotated as ‘< 10’. To prevent cells that have been primarily suppressed from being calculated, other cells may also need to be suppressed. This is known as consequential or secondary suppression. These cells are annotated as ‘np’ (not published). In the data cube (uCube), a disclosure control technique called input perturbation has been applied to the data, whereby small random adjustments are made to cell counts.
This is applicable to all DEEWR Higher Education data that is either published on the DEEWR website or custom tabular data provided to clients.
Requests or enquires about data requirements should be emailed to: university.statistics@deewr.gov.au
To ensure conformity with the Privacy Act 1988 and Division 179 of the HESA Act 2003, aggregated datasets with cell values less than ten will no longer be provided. However, sufficiently de-identified tailor-made datasets can be requested following the procedures outlined above.
Timeseries data is available from the Higher Education data cube (uCube). Data is from 2001 onwards and is updated annually.
uCube allows customised tables to be generated by the client user via a browser application. The cube data is based on selected higher education micro data collected through the Higher Education Statistics Collection.
For enquiries please email highereducationdatacube@deewr.gov.au.
Data in spreadsheet format can be supplied from the Finance Collection and the Research Expenditure Collection. Please contact ppfinance@deewr.gov.au for more information.
Listings and specifications for data that are available
The type of data available can be seen from the specifications for each of the collections. For more information on the types of data elements available, please see the HEIMS webpage.
