Proposed changes to the student income support system
Legislation to give effect to the Australian Government’s proposed changes to student income support was not passed by the Senate in 2009, as advised in a media release
from Minister for Education, Julia Gillard on December 1. This means that the current arrangements and rules for Youth Allowance, Austudy and ABSTUDY remain in place.
The Government has indicated that it intends to bring its legislation back to the Parliament early in 2010. For further information see the overview page.
