Higher Education Disability Support Program

Higher Education Disability Support Program

The Disability Support Program provides funding to eligible higher education providers to undertake activities that assist in removing barriers to access for students with disabilities.

The program has three components:

Additional Support for Students with Disabilities (ASSD)

The objectives of the ASSD component of the program are to:

  • provide funding to eligible higher education providers to assist with the high costs incurred in providing educational support and/or equipment to students with disabilities to enable them to participate in higher education; and
  • encourage efficient and effective use of equipment and education resources to support students with disability.

In 2011, the 38 eligible higher education providers received a total of $5,748,372 as reimbursement of expenses incurred in the 2010 calendar year.

Applications from eligible higher education providers for reimbursement under ASSD of expenses incurred in the 2011 calendar year should be submitted on the application form below. A checklist is also provided to help ensure the form is completed correctly.

Performance-based Disability Support Funding

The objective of the Performance-based Disability Support Funding component of the Disability Support Program is to encourage higher education providers to implement strategies to attract and support students with disabilities.

In 2011, $1 000 500 was allocated to the 38 Table A providers in accordance with the formula set out in the Disability Support Program guidelines for the Performance-based Disability Support Funding component.
