Dr Michael Vertigan AC
EIF Advisory Board Member 2007 – 2011
Dr Michael Vertigan served on the EIF Advisory Board from 2007-2011. He has experience in the public, higher education, philanthropy and business sectors. A former Chancellor of the University of Tasmania, he was previously Secretary of several Victorian and Tasmanian Government departments. He has previously held the position of director on the boards of Basslink, NT Power and Water Corporation, ASX Supervisory Review Pty Ltd and Tattersalls Ltd.
Dr Vertigan was commissioned by the Department of Finance and Administration to chair the Review of Budget Estimates Production Arrangements (the Vertigan Review) 1999. He was also former Chairman of the Pooled Development Funds Programme (AusIndustry) and member of the Intelligent Island Board (DCITA).
Dr Vertigan was the Winner of the Australian Institute of Company Directors' Tasmanian Division Gold Medal as Director of the Year (2000), and was awarded the Centenary Medal. He holds an honours degree in economics from the University of Tasmania and a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.
Dr Vertigan was made a Companion of the Order of Australia (Australia Day 2004) for service as a community leader in public administration, through development of far reaching fiscal policy reform; in business and industry, through focusing on strategic investment for sustainable economic growth; and in education through university governance.
