Establishment
The Education Investment Fund Advisory Board (the Advisory Board) was established under the Nation-building Funds Act 2008.
Membership
The Advisory Board is appointed by the Minister for Education and the Minister for Research. Members are selected on the basis of their knowledge of the tertiary education, research, industry, and business sectors, and their relevance to fields associated with the sectors. Members will have the full range of skills necessary to ensure effective Board operations and program governance, including project development and management.

Role
The role of the EIF Advisory Board includes
- ensuring a rigorous and robust proposal evaluation process for the EIF funding program
- advising the relevant Minister in relation to making grants from the EIF, and
- advising the Education Minister and Research Minister on matters referred to it by those Ministers that relate to the object or operation of the EIF.
As part of the EIF application and assessment process, the Advisory Board will
- assess projects against the EIF evaluation criteria
- request further information from applicants if required
- make comparative assessments of projects within sectors, and
- advise the Ministers as to which projects satisfy the EIF evaluation criteria.
