Remittances – Sending Money Back Home
The Pacific Seasonal Worker Pilot Scheme is being conducted to examine whether it can contribute to the economic development of participating countries through worker’s experiences, remittances and training received.
It is important to know that different financial institutions which facilitate money transfer services charge varying prices for sending money within the Pacific. It is also important to know that the costs for sending money in the Pacific are some of the highest in the world.
To assist Pacific seasonal workers to find the best value way to send their remittances, Send Money Pacific has been created through a joint Australian and New Zealand Governments' led initiative 'Reducing the Cost of Remittances to the Pacific'. This website allows a user to compare the rates of different financial transfer institutions at any one time. The project has been developed and managed by the project partner, Developing Markets Associates Ltd (DMA).
When a Pacific seasonal worker sends their money home, we encourage them to compare service fees on this website so they can maximise the amount of money their families and communities can receive, while minimising the amount of fees they have to pay.
