Golden Gurus Member Organisations

Golden Gurus Member Organisations

There are a range of Golden Gurus Member Organisations across Australia that offer rewarding opportunities for Golden Gurus. Member Organisations appropriately connect Mature Age people to Suitable Golden Gurus Opportunities and have been approved by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (the Department) to promote their services as part of the Golden Gurus Program.

Some Member Organisations connect a Golden Guru with a volunteering role that allows them to use their skills and experience to support a Community Organisation. This could involve:

  • the Golden Guru using their business skills to build the capacity of the Community Organisation, or
  • the Golden Guru working with a client of that Community Organisation (for example, a student, a young parent or a person with disability) to transfer their skills and experience.

The focus is on supporting the community. For the purposes of the Golden Gurus Program, this type of role is called Skilled Volunteering.

Other Member Organisations focus on creating opportunities for Golden Gurus to use their skills and experience to support Small Business owners. This could include:

  • new Small Business owners who have established their business by completing the Government’s New Enterprise Incentive Scheme.

For the purposes of the Golden Gurus Program, this type of role is called Small Business Mentoring.

A Member Organisation does not necessarily deliver a program that focuses exclusively on connecting Mature Age people to voluntary opportunities, however, Mature Age people must be one of the Member Organisation’s target groups and only Mature Age people will be recognised as Golden Gurus.

Become a Member Organisation

Under the Golden Gurus Program, organisations that have a program in place that appropriately connects Mature Age people to Skilled Volunteering or Small Business Mentoring roles (and whose primary purpose is to provide an altruistic service to the community), are encouraged to apply to become part of the national Golden Gurus Community.

Entry into the Golden Gurus Community is granted by the Department.

To be accepted into the Golden Gurus Community an organisation must demonstrate that their pre-existing service meets the Golden Gurus Quality Guidelines. Organisations that are accepted into the Golden Gurus Community become Member Organisations.
