Golden Gurus Helping the Community

VolwingSince the Golden Guru program was launched in the Southern Highlands of NSW, nine gurus have been recruited and are now actively assisting local community organisations.

Gurus, Kim and Shirley are using their interior design skills to advise the staff of a community organisation that assists children with learning difficulties. Their brief has been to suggest cost effective changes that will make the centre more appealing to its young clients.

Another Guru, Margaret, has been helping develop marketing plans for several not-for-profit groups in the area.  These plans have been implemented to great effect.

Recently Volunteering Wingecarribee was approached by a local incorporated association. The group’s executive members were experiencing some difficulties relating to tax returns.

Two of our Golden Gurus, who have prior experience with incorporated non-profit organisations, were able to make a couple of telephone calls to the relevant government departments on their behalf, thereby alleviating the concerns of the members with regards to their legal position.

Another Guru who has experience organising events, has been mentoring a working party that is developing a plan for a local festival.

Other Guru jobs in the pipeline include offering landscaping advice for a large community area and helping develop sponsorship packages for a group that is fundraising to combat domestic violence.
