Centrelink’s Financial Information Service is a free and independent service available to anyone. You can book into a Financial Information Service Seminar or you can make an appointment for an interview with a Financial Information Service Officer.
Financial Information Service Officers can provide you with expert information in a friendly environment so that you are better able to:
- Recognise and follow your financial options, and make better financial decisions
- Understand investment products and how they work
- Approach/undertake your own financial planning
- Recognise when you might need professional financial advice, and how to go about getting it
- Understand social security payments and requirements and taxation provisions and requirements and how they may affect you.

Commonwealth Financial Counselling
The Commonwealth Financial Counselling Service provides free financial counselling services to people who are experiencing personal financial difficulties, including due to circumstances such as unemployment, sickness, credit over-commitment and family breakdown.
Financial counsellors can help you negotiate with creditors, look at options for repaying bills, explain debt recovery processes, help you gain financial skills and explore your options.

National Information Centre on Retirement Investments
Gathering information to make an informed investment decision can be difficult. Relevant information is not always readily available or available at a reasonable cost. Keeping up to date can also be difficult as the investment industry is constantly changing with new investment products continually becoming available. Changes not only occur to investment products but also to legislation, social security and veterans' affairs rules and taxation laws.
The National Information Centre on Retirement Investments Inc (NICRI) is a great source of information which can really help you understand those confusing, financially related issues. It is a free, independent, confidential service which aims to improve the level and quality of investment information provided to consumers.
