The Minister for Employment Participation and Childcare, the Hon Kate Ellis MP has urged employers to recruit and retain mature age workers. The new Investing in Experience Employment Charter and Tool Kit has been provided to over 7500 employers to help employers implement positive age management practices in organisations across Australia.
With the ageing of the Australian population, it is now more important than ever to encourage experienced workers to remain in the workforce and to pass their skills and knowledge onto others.
The Investing in Experience Tool Kit is a once stop practical guide for employing people over 45 years of age. It provides practical help for employers to assess the demographics of their workforce, to identify and address potential skill and knowledge gaps, and to recruit and retain experience staff. The kit includes a mature age employment self assessment tool, Action Plan template, recruitment tips and information and practical suggestions to retain mature age staff.
The Tool Kit is supported by the Investing in Experience Employment Charter which includes nine principles and actions that employers can use to strengthen age-management practices in the workplace.
The Tool Kit and Charter were launched by the Minister for Employment Participation and Childcare, the Hon Kate Ellis MP, on 30 March 2011 and form part of the important work of the Australian Government’s Consultative Forum for Mature Age Participation.
