Employer Brokers

Employer Brokers is a competitive grants program which is a component of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations’ (DEEWR) employment services. It commenced on 1 July 2009 and ends on 30 June 2012. The Employer Broker role is to engage with employers in a skill or labour shortage industry to broker solutions that meet employers’ needs and co-ordinate and target the efforts of employment service providers to matching the needs of job seekers with the labour requirements of employers.

The Australian Government provided $6 million over three years to fund Employer Broker activities. There are currently 30 activities that have been funded for approximately $4.6 million.

Employer Broker Panel members

The Employer Broker panel consists of a range of organisations including community groups, industry and employer associations and training organisations. Selection of panel members was conducted through the Request for Tender for Employment Service Process 2009-12. Additional panel members were appointed in June 2010  through a Request for Tender, designed to attract organisations specifically skilled and knowledgeable in the area of servicing national employers that have a dispersed workforce throughout  Australia and to help these employers to manage their recruitment, including increasing their Indigenous workforce.

Only Employer Broker panel members are eligible to apply for funding, however, the Guidelines for Employer Broker Activities allow non-panel members to directly approach panel members to collaborate on activity proposals which a panel member could then submit. Non-panel members may also forward ideas for Employer Broker activities directly to DEEWR, and if determined to be suitable, the Department may seek panel members to develop and implement these activities.
