Relocation to an area with higher employment prospects
As a job seeker you can participate in work experience activities at any time—with the assistance of your Job Services Australia provider.
Your involvement in work experience activities can give you the opportunity to build on your existing job skills, learn new skills and improve your chances of finding a job. In particular, undertaking work experience can provide practical ways for you to connect with your community and to demonstrate your abilities to potential employers.
Relocation to an area with higher employment prospects
Relocation to an area of higher labour demand, followed by intensive job search, can enable you to meet your annual work experience activity requirement, provided that:
- at the time of the move, you were receiving services from the Job Services Australia provider, and
- the Job Services Australia provider and you agree, as part of negotiating the Employment Pathway Plan (EPP), that this is the most appropriate course of action to improve your employment prospects.
Job seekers using this to satisfy their work experience activity requirement would also be required to undertake 14 weeks of intensive job search following the relocation. Intensive job search means twice the usual job contacts, with a minimum of 10 per fortnight (six for Principal Carer parents and job seekers assessed as having a Partial Capacity to Work).
Relocation costs are an approved example of the goods and services that could be purchased through the Employment Pathway Fund.
A remote job seeker may choose to move to a non-remote location on a temporary basis for activities that are part of their EPP, or while being supported by a Job Services Australia provider. If this happens, the relocation is not something which satisfies the job seeker’s work experience activity requirement (where relevant), but the job seeker will retain their remote status. This will help ensure that job seekers access the most suitable training, work experience and job and education opportunities, whether this is available locally or in a non-remote centre.
How to become involved
If you are a job seeker registered with a Job Services Australia provider, you can discuss your interest about relocating to an area with higher employment prospects with your Job Services Australia provider. If you and your Job Services Australia provider agree relocating will benefit you, it may form part of your Employment Pathway Plan.
If you are a job seeker who has a work experience activity requirement, you can meet this requirement by relocating to an area with higher employment prospects.
