The National Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) Workforce Census 2010 was an initiative of the Australian Government in partnership with state and territory governments, conducted to better inform government planning for the ECEC sector and help ensure that high quality early childhood services are provided to young children and their families.
The results of the National ECEC Workforce Census provide nationally consistent and comprehensive information on the early childhood workforce. The results will also inform the development of the national Early Years Workforce Strategy.

The 2010 National ECEC Workforce Census detailed data tables provide data disaggregated by state and territory as well as remoteness categories.
The National ECEC Workforce Census 2010 Data Protocol sets out the principles, rules and procedures governing the access, use and dissemination of the National ECEC Workforce Census data.

The questionnaires provided below are samples for reference only. Please note these forms were used in the ACT, NSW, NT and SA, with the term “preschool”. Identical forms were used in QLD, TAS, VIC and WA, with the exception that the term “kindergarten” was used instead of preschool.
