DEEWR's Commitment to Indigenous Australians

DEEWR Graduate Program

DEEWR’s Graduate Program holds opportunities for Indigenous Australians who have completed university studies and are looking for a career within the public sector. The department offers graduates excellent opportunities to broaden their skills and gain skills across a variety of areas.

DEEWR graduates have access to intensive learning, support, training and development, flexible working arrangements and an attractive remuneration package while developing networks throughout a diverse department.

Further information can be found on the Graduate Program page.

DEEWR Entry Level Program

As part of the APS Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment & Capability Strategy the APS is coordinating a whole of Government Indigenous Entry Level Recruitment Programme to promote career opportunities for Indigenous Australians in the APS. This will help to improve workplace diversity, increase Indigenous representation in the APS and assist Indigenous Australians in contributing to the full range of government policies and programs.

Further information can be found on the Australian Public Service Commission website.

Reconciliation Action Plan

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations is committed to reconciliation and improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the key areas of early childhood, education, training and skills, and employment and workplace relations.

As a department, we believe a commitment to reconciliation is not only the right thing to do but makes good business sense; a workforce that is respectful, understanding and inclusive of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can more effectively respond to their specific needs.

COAG - Closing the Gap Targets

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians face many challenges to their social inclusion. The Australian Government has set ambitious targets for closing the gap on Indigenous disadvantage with respect to life expectancy, child mortality, access to early childhood education, educational attainment and employment outcomes.
