Our Work Environment

Our Work Environment

Our commitment to our people

We are committed to creating positive working environments, based on honesty and trust where people can balance their work with their personal life, and are supported to deliver high-quality performance. We work in collaboration and deliver results by finding creative and practical solutions and using all of our experience and determination to ensure those solutions deliver results for the Government, the public and stakeholders.

Work/life balance

Balancing work and home life can sometimes be a challenge. We believe that good health, happiness and a sense of achievement are essential for managing work and life responsibilities effectively.
We have flexible and innovative work practices and programs that assist in providing quality work/life balance.

Your development

Our diverse portfolio and responsibilities offer an abundance of opportunities to learn new skills, take on different work and have a meaningful diverse career. Through a diverse range of education, experience and mobility opportunities we support our people to develop in their roles and build a solid foundation for their future career with us and in the Australian Public Service.

Social and support networks

Our various networks and social clubs include:

  • The Women’s Forum
  • The Mura-Kaimel Yarrangi Network (DEEWR Indigenous Employee Network)
  • The Executive Assistant Network (EAN)
  • The Administrative Officers Network
  • The DEEWR Events Network
  • The Health and Safety Representatives Network
  • The DEEWR Graduates Network
  • D’Club – DEEWR’s social club

‘D’Club’ participates in social and sporting activities, supports charities and provides a way for all employees to participate. D’Club includes sub-social groups for enthusiasts in motorcycles, cycling, Pilates and footy tipping to name a few.

Employee support program

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is one of the support mechanisms offered to all of our people and members of their immediate families. EAP is a confidential counselling service to assist with a wide range of personal and /or work related concerns. It is also free.

Disability Employee Network

We are committed to creating an environment that is inclusive, supportive and values diversity. To support our staff with a disability we have established The Disability Employee Network (DEN). DEN offers peer support, helps to raise disability confidence, and provides a voice for employees with disability in the department. All staff are invited to join the network whether they have a disability, work with someone who has a disability or have an interest in disability issues.

Employee health and safety

We are committed to maintaining a healthy and safe working environment and have developed the Health and Safety Management Arrangements (HSMAs) to support this.

We individually assist our people in the promotion of good health by providing a $200 health related allowance paid annually, reimbursement for seasonal influenza vaccinations, and workstation assessments to minimise workplace injury and accommodate pre-existing injuries.
